- First edition. "During the last 20 years growing interest has been shown in lightweight architecture, and increasing numbers of membrane, cable and cable net structures have been built. This new architecture may be regarded as the product of the need for mobility, wheather of people, materials, or of whole societies, and it has produced such exciting structures as Frei Otto's pavillion for the Montreal Olympics. A fascinating aspect of this new architecture, however, is its relationship and similarity to the structures of nomadic societies. In this book, Philip Drew traces the continuous development of lightweight structures from the early tent dwellers to the present day"(inside flap).
